Lee Min Ho that came using a Black Van, makes the crowd goes excited, cheers of the crowd were heard " It is the star of Boys Over Flowers, the Flower Man...", " No, is it Lee Min Ho?? "
Three Lee Min Ho's female staff makes fun of Lee Min Ho from the appearance of Lee Min Ho's newest SBS Drama "City Hunter". There was a the shooting process took place in GwangHamun once and since he start the shooting process, he only took 3 hours of sleep each day. He even start sleep when the sun already shine brightly. " You should be really tired, you should be sleeping and…it's not considered lunch.." said the reporter, " No it’s allright, today's weather is so friendly and beautiful..." said Lee Min Ho with a warm smile.
Lee Min Ho enters the cafe, roaming the cafe with his three staff, and grab a Mandolin that was a decoration to the cafe. Lee Min Ho pose like a indie musician Hong Dae when he grab the simple guitar. With his bronze hair, and his chin, Lee Min Ho looks like him. Meanwhile, many people came too see the interview between Lee Min Ho and the reporter that is 9 years older than him. Seeing his manly charm, it seems hard to keep a neutral interview team (especially by female reporters)??
내 안의 액션 본능, 카타르시스 느껴
-‘꽃보다 남자’ 이후 매체인터뷰를 거의 하지 않았어요. 사실 섭외가 어려웠는데 ENEWS24 창간 인터뷰에 응해줘서 고마워요. 007 작전에 버금가는 수준으로 간신히 접선했지만 보람이 느껴지는데요.
“ENEWS24의 시작을 함께 할 수 있어서 오히려 제가 더 감사해야죠. 스케줄은 정말로 죄송해요. 항상 촬영장에서 스탠바이 상태로 있어야 해서 따로 시간을 빼내기가 쉽지 않아요. 촬영 시작한 지 한달 째인데, 아직 1회를 다 못 찍었거든요. 갈 길이 멀죠?”
Fighting my inner instinct
Q : " There wasn’t many media interview after "Boys Over Flowers" and ENews24 would like to Thank You again for the interview after a hard negotiation...it seems a 007 target (a heavy task, almost impossible) to interview you but now it feels so worth it..."
A : " ENews24 interview me, i'm feeling thankful...because of my schedule, i'm really sorry... i spent a lot of my time on the set, standby for scenes which is not easy. It's been a month since i started shooting and we haven't finished all of scenes, still got a long way to go?? "
-살이 좀 빠진 것 같은데 건강은 어떤가요?
“태국 로케이션에서 돌아온 지 얼마 되지 않았어요. 촬영 가기 전에 드라마 캐릭터 때문에 살짝 태닝을 했는데, 그곳에서 엄청 까매져서 돌아온 것 같아요. 살은 액션 스쿨과 수영을 병행하면서 자연스럽게 빠졌어요. 제가 조금만 덜 먹고 고생해도 살이 쭉쭉 빠지는 스타일이라 늘 잘 챙겨먹으려 노력해요. 오늘 점심도 많이 먹어야겠네요.”(이민호는 여러 종류의 스파게티와 샐러드를 시켜서 같이 일하는 스타일리스트, 매니저, 헤어디자이너, 메이크업 아티스트와 함께 순식간에 그릇을 비웠다.)
Q : " Are you all right and healthy ?? "
A : " I was not long ago came back from Thailand for shooting. I was a little tanned for the character but i think it's back right now...I enter Action School and swim too. But i still eat well for my work...i think i eat a lot at lunch..." (Lee Min Ho eat several Spaghetti and Salad, along with his manager, staff, make-up artist and hair dresser and all of them emptied the bowl of food).
-이번 캐릭터는 ‘꽃보다 남자’ ‘개인의 취향’ 때와 어떻게 다르고 변신을 주려 했나요?
“액션에 대한 부분을 욕심냈어요. ‘시티헌터’ 속 이윤성은 MIT 박사 출신 청와대 국가지도 통신망팀 브레인이지만 예쁜 여성 앞에서 장난도 부리고 해맑은 이중적인 캐릭터를 지니고 있어요. 출생의 비밀과 아픔이 있지만 이를 숨기고, 가벼운 행동도 많이 해요. 그러나 이 역시 어떤 정의로운 목표를 위해서 설정을 잡고 하는 치밀한 행동인 거죠. 원작 만화에서처럼 다소 변태 같은 플레이보이 캐릭터를 예상하시는 분도 있는데, 이건 TV용 드라마니까 너무 기대하시면 안되요, 하하.”
Q : " After Boys Over Flowers and Personal Preference, why did you want to try a different character?? "
A : " I think that's because i'm greedy to try the character. Lee Yoon Seong in "City Hunter" is a MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Graduate, he's very smart and work for the President in the Blue House, but can't act anything in front of beautiful girls. He has some secrets and pain that would be revealed in the drama, but i'm taking it to a lighter action. However, his cartoon character in TV is a mature playboy that somehow a pervert , but don't expect too much on the TV Drama, haha..."
-이민호식 액션은 총인가요? 칼인가요?
“우선 ‘칼리’라는 동남아 무술을 배웠어요. 빠르고 민첩하게 상대의 급소를 찌르는 방법을 익혔죠. 액션 스쿨에서 연습할 때는 재미도 없고 힘들었는데, 막상 현장에서 촬영을 하고 나면 쾌감이 밀려들더라고요.”
Q : " You learn action skill?? you learned Kali ?? "
A : " I learned that "Kali" is a martial arts skill from South East Asia. It's fast and requires agility to defeat the opponent using weapons. if you had fun in Action School, you won't have a problem shooting a difficult scenes, and train for it. Take the fun part in each location and don't force yourself..."
- 원래 액션 본능이 있는 운동 마니아인가 봐요?
“남자 배우라면 다 액션에 대한 욕심이 있을 거예요. 초등학생 때 ‘록키’ 시리즈를 즐겨봤던 기억도 있고요. 운동은 제가 워낙 게으른 데다 살이 잘 빠지는 체질이라서 쉴 때 집에서 아무 것도 먹지 않고 놀면 살이 쫙쫙 빠져서 의도적으로 하는 편이에요. 스쿼시나 볼링, 탁구 처럼 승부 나는 게임을 좋아해요.”
Q : " You seems to love Action Sports now?? "
A : " A male actor should be greedy for all of actions. I watch series of "Rocky" when i was in elementary school and i like it. But i sometimes feels so lazy to exercise...i go to rest without eating when i got home, so i lost weight...but i love ping pong and bowling..."
-조금만 덜 먹어도 살이 빠지는 체질이라니, 역시 이기적인 유전자라는 말이 사실이군요. 가족들도 유전자들이 다 남다르던데.
“다른 건 모르겠고 키는 다들 커요. 아버지가 182cm, 어머니 168cm, 누나가 172cm니까 가족들 평균 키가 177cm쯤 되겠네요. 자꾸 이기적인 유전자라 하시는데 우리 누나는 솔직히 안 예쁘잖아요. 그냥 평범해요. 그렇지만 정말 좋은 누나에요. 저 때문에 누나가 힘들 때도 많을 텐데 늘 한결 같고 힘이 되어줘요.”
Q : " You seems only gain a little weight from so many food, lost weight when eating less and that was a good gen (superior). I heard that all of your Lee Family members seems to have that good gen..."
A : " I know nothing about it, my father Is 182 cm, my mother is 168 cm and my sister is 172 cm. Our family’s average weight is 177, we still considered an average family, i guess. Besides, my sister is not pretty, but average looking…But my sister is really a good sister. Many sister would be hard on their younger brother, but she always give me strength.
-‘시티헌터’는 이민호 원톱 드라마로 봐도 무방한데 책임감이 남다르기도 하겠어요.
“다행히 태국 촬영 때 아버지 역할로 나오는 김상중 선배님과 함께 가면서 많이 의지를 했어요. 물론 한국 촬영 때에는 후배들도 많죠. 어딜 가나 막내였는데, 이번엔 구하라, 양진성 같은 신인 여배우들이 함께 촬영하면서 ‘오빠’라고 하니까 좋기도 하고 어색하기도 하죠. 상대역인 박민영씨는 누나라 매번 누님들과의 러브라인은 이번 작품에서도 이어지네요.”
Q : " In City Hunter, Lee Min Ho's character is a only son, being protected but full of responsibility?? "
A : " Fortunately, in Thailand, the one who portrayed my Father, senior Kim Sang Jung (he said Kim Sang Jung sunbae) is with me also, he gives me support...and i took more scenes with my junior when i got back to Korea...when i took scenes with the some of the youngest casts like Goo Ha Ra and Yang Jin Seong (?), i got nervouse too because they call me 'Oppa..', but Park Min Young-ssi who would be my love in the drama is taking the lead on this work, my love line would be with a woman who is older than me, like my previous works... "
-액션은 대역이 많지 않을까요?
“차량 신은 카 스턴트 분들이 대신 해줘요. 워낙 위험하니까요. 그것 외에 오토바이를 운전하는 장면이나 직접 몸으로 싸우는 신들은 거의 제가 하려고 노력해요. 덕분에 손 여기저기에 자잘한 상처가 많이 생겼어요.”(실제로 이민호는 양 손가락에 난, 딱지가 채 앉기 전의 상처를 보여주기도 했다.)
Q : " Do you use stunt man for you actions scenes?? you should have use them..."
A : " I use stunts for car action scenes since it’s too dangerous. For me, it's more important to think about the things i use (example : cars or motorcycles ), because it's more dangerous. When i'm taking a scene where i'm driving a motorcycle, i'm feeling like i'm fighting the Gods. Thanks to a lot of staff here, i didn't get any major injury, just minor..." ( Lee Min Ho show us some of his scars on his fingers that he got long time ago, and swear that he always prays before doing dangerous scenes)
배우 이민호에 대한 오해와 진실
-말나온 김에 상대 여배우들과는 호흡이 잘 맞나요? 스캔들 나는 건 아니겠죠?
“솔직히 저에 대한 스캔들 기사가 나왔을 때 많이 당혹스러웠어요. ‘꽃남’ 때 인터뷰를 하면서 기자분들의 질문에 ‘친한 걸로만 스캔들이 나는 거라면, 스캔들 날 사람이 몇 명 더 있다’고 무심코 말하니까 ‘이민호, 열애 상대 세명 더 있다’고 기사가 났죠. 하지만 주위서 우리 사이에 대해 잘 모르니까 겉으로만 보고 사귄다고 오해한다면, 그럴 수도 있겠다 하고 넘길 수 있어요. 정말 억울한 건, 받지도 않은 명품을 받았다고 하거나 팩트를 완전히 왜곡한 기사들과 소문들이에요.”

Q : " You can work well with female actress, right??? how about your scandal?? "
A : To tell the truth, i was so embarrassed when there's a lot of news coming about my scandal. during " Boys Over Flowers. There was a time when I was careless, I said to a reporter “if all of my scandals was on the surface (spilled out), there would be 3 people you can found I;m having scandals with…” and after that, came an article title “Lee Min Ho is in love with 3 people…” if many people reads it and didn’t really know about my relationship with those 3 people, they’ll misunderstand. There was a time when I was said to receive many branded good that I didn’t even receive, those were false rumors.
-자신에 대한 기사를 열심히 찾아보나 봐요.
“그럼요. 하루 일과를 마치고 꼭 내 이름으로 포털사이트를 검색해 봐요. 오늘은 이런 기사가 났구나, 이런 사진이 떴구나, 팬들은 이런 반응을 보였구나. 보면서 느끼는 게 많죠.”
Q : “ Do you diligently search news about yourself?? ”
A : “ Of course. After finishing a day’s work, I will type my name and do a search on portal sites. By doing it, I’ll know the report that came out today, this is the photo that came out, this is the reaction of my fans. There’s a lot that I experience just by doing these….”
-어떤 댓글이나 반응이 좋은데요?
“당연히 외모 관련된 말보다는 연기 잘한다는 말이 좋죠. 얼굴이나 인기로 화제가 되기보다는 연기로서 평가받고 싶어요. ‘연기력 좋다’는 말을 앞으로 더 많이 들어야겠죠.”
Q : " What kind of replies or feedback do you think is good? "
A : “For me, it’s much better to get praised for my acting than for my looks. I want to be recognized for my acting more than for my looks or popularity. I hope to hear comments such as ‘his acting is good’ more in the future.”
-팬들의 응원 때문에 한때 슬럼프나 힘든 시절도 잘 이겨냈겠죠?
“지난 3~4년간 엄청나게 과분한 사랑을 받았죠. 그렇게 큰 사랑에 대해 사실 제가 해드릴게 별로 없잖아요. 좋은 작품으로 기쁨을 선사해드리는 게 제 입장에서 해야 할 도리라고 생각해요. 태국을 그동안 7번 이상 다녀왔거든요. 이젠 서울 시내처럼 훤할 정도예요. 그런데 갈 때마다 열성 팬들이 제 모든 스케줄을 함께 해주세요. 공항에 안개 때문에 반나절이 연착륙 됐는데도 그 새벽에 수백명의 팬분들이 제 이름을 부르며 환호성을 보내주셨어요. 열흘 내내 택시를 타고 저를 따라오시는 분들도 많았고요. 고맙고 한편으로는 미안하기도 해요. 특히 프로모션 팬미팅 갔는데 제 생일 선물이라며 이민호란 이름으로 기부금을 낼 때에는, 느끼는 게 많았죠. ‘더 진심을 보여드리고 열심히 살아야겠다’는 그런 마음.”
Q : “ What do you feel when you hear your fans’s cheer and support after during work?? You feel happy, right?? ”
A : “ Actually, i receive love that I didn’t deserve this last 3 -4 years. So much love that I didn’t think I already paid their love in return. Giving pleasure to my fans by meeting them in projects is merely my duty. I have visited Thailand for more than 7 times now. It’s brightly lit just like downtown Seoul nowadays. Every time I visit the country, I’m greeted with enthusiastic fans who participate in all my schedules. Even when I was held back in the airport due to the fog, there were hundreds of fans shouting my name and cheering me on although it was after midnight/early morning. There were also many who rode taxis and followed me around throughout 10 days. I’m thankful towards them and also apologetic. A lot of feelings go through me, especially during the times when fans gave me a present by donating funds in my name during promotions/fanmeetings. My heart’s response is to live diligently and show them my sincerity.
-굉장히 적극적인 성격이 인상적이에요. 민호씨는 A형이라는데 O형 기질이 있나 봐요.
“아니에요. 생존을 위해서 성격이 바뀌었다고 할까요? 원래 초등학교 때까지 굉장히 내성적이었어요. 중학교 배치를 받았는데 저만 친구들과 달리 다른 학교로 가게 된 거예요. 아는 친구 하나 없는 중학교에서 살아남으려 성격을 일부러 바꿨죠. 축구나 게임 같은 운동도 같이 자주 하고. 그래서 그때 사귄 중학교 친구들이 10년지기 절친이 됐고요.”
Q : Your extremely positive personality is impressive. Although you are a blood type A person, it seems like you’re O type…”
A : “ Not actually. Should I change my personality to survive? I was an introvert up to elementary school. However, when I received placement for secondary school, I was sent to a school different from any of my friends. I knew no one when I was in middle school. In order to survive, I deliberately changed my personality. I often played games such as football with them, that is why the friend I had during middle school years have become my close friends of 10 years...”
-학교 얘기가 나오니, 정일우 군과는 대방동 얼짱 친구로 유명했잖아요.
“반포중학교 다니다 당곡고등학교로 진학하면서, 주로 대방 영등포 보라매 쪽에서 친구들과 많이 어울려 다녔죠. 그러면서 친구 소개로 (정)일우를 만났어요. 둘다 술을 못해서 커피 시켜놓고 수다 떠는 걸 좋아해요. 지금은 서로 모니터해주면 조언도 주고 받으면서 많이 의지하죠. 제가 연예인 친구가 별로 없거든요. (김)범이까지 총 다섯 손가락 안에 꼽아요. 아, 요즘 일우가 나오는 드라마 ‘49일’ 시청률이 어떤가요? 잘 챙겨 볼 시간이 없어서 미안한데, 시청률 1등 해야 하는데.”
Q : “ Let’s talk about school…Jung Il woo said that you were a kind and handsome friend when you were in High School…”
A : “ As a confirmation, I go to DanGook High School after going to BanPo middle school… 대방 영등포 보라매( Dae Bang Young Dung Pu Boramae ) I got to know (jung) ilwoo through a friend. Both of us can’t drink well so we like to chat over a cup of coffee. Right now, we monitor and advise each other, giving each other support. I don’t have many friends who are entertainers. Including (kim)bum, i can count them within 5 fingers. A, now there’s still Il Woo’s Drama ’49 Days’ , right??? I can’t make a time to watch that drama, and I’m sorry…but I hope that drama got the 1st rank in rating…”
-이렇게 바쁜데 막상 쉴 때에는 뭐하나요?
“방콕족이에요. 영화나 TV를 많이 봐요. 예능 프로그램을 좋아하는데 ‘놀러와’ ‘강심장’ ‘무릎팍도사’ 거의 챙겨서 봐요.”
Q : " Since you’re so busy, what do you do once you get to rest?
A : “I stay At home…I watch movies or TV at lot. I like entertainment programs so I mostly watch ‘come to play’, ‘strong heart’ and ‘knee guru’.”
-직접 출연하실 생각은 없나요?
“아니요. 아직은 준비가 안됐어요.(웃음) 그런데 나가서 재밌게 얘기할 자신도 없고, 다이나믹한 스토리를 많이 가지고 있지도 않아서. 웃겨야 한다는 부담감도 솔직히 두렵고, 내공이 부족할 것 같아요. 지금 할 수 있는 연기에 최선을 다하는 게 나을 거 같아서요.”
Q : " Haven’t you thought of participating in those programs? "
A : “No. I’m not ready for it. (laughs) I’m not confident of talking in a manner that others deem interesting, and don’t have any dynamic stories to tell. To be honest, I fear the burden of having to be comical. I’m not up for it. For now, I think it’s better if I give my best to acting.”
-촬영하면서 힘들거나 아쉬웠던 점들은 없었나요?
“촬영 기술이나 환경이 아무래도 할리우드 시스템에 비해 부족할 수밖에 없으니까 좀 아쉬워요. 영화 ‘매트릭스’에서 총알을 피하는 슬로우 장면을 보면 최첨단 카메라 수십대가 동원된 거잖아요. 우리 팀은 전부 수동이에요, 하하. 진혁 감독님이 ‘배우 입장에서 조금 민망하겠지만 슬로우 걸린 것처럼 주먹 날리는 액션을 해봐라. 그래야 좋은 화면이 나온다’고 주문하셨어요. 처음엔 콩트 찍는 것처럼 좀 창피했는데 이젠 주먹을 날리는 슬로우 액션에 도가 텄잖아요. 나중에 화면 보시고 웃으시면 안 돼요!”
Q : Aren’t there any difficulties or regrets when filming?
A : “We’re far from Hollywood when it comes to filming skills and apparatus. There’s a scene in the movie ‘Matrix’ where someone dodges a bullet in slow motion. That requires the use of over ten cutting edge cameras. Our team takes the manual way. Director Jin Hyeok (Director of City Hunter) told me that although it’s embarrassing from the standpoint of an actor, the scene will come out good if I act in slow motion as I throw my fist. It was pretty embarrassing initially, but now i’ve mastered it. You must not laugh when you view those scenes when they come out.
-배우 이민호가 그동안 자신에게 해준 가장 큰, 의미 있는 선물을 솔직히 얘기해주세요.
“글쎄요.(한참 고민하더니) 집이요. 2년 반 정도 살다가 얼마 전 좀 더 넓은 흑석동 새 집으로 이사갔어요.”
Q : “ Tell me Actor Lee Min Ho’s most meaningful gift to yourself, tell me honestly..”
A : “ I don’t know…(pausing for a while, looking worried), my house. We just move into a new house after 2 years…and we move to Heuk-Seok dong larger area.. ”
-왜 강남으로 가지 않고요?
“강남은 우리 어머니가 지리를 잘 모르실걸요. 길 잃어버리시면 어떡해요. 원래 살던 동네랑 멀지 않고, 그쪽에 친구들이 많으니까. 아직까지는 별로 강남에 살고 싶다는 생각이 없어요.”
Q : “ Why didn’t you move to Gangnam?? ”
A : “ Because we didn’t knew this area well, especially my mother…what if she get lost if we didn’t know the area well..so, we choose a place not to far from the place we use to live…Besides, I have some friend in the place I used to live... I’ve never thought that want to live in Gangnam…”
-마지막으로 ‘시티헌터’ 시청률 욕심도 날텐데, 올해 목표는요?
“시청률 30%가 넘었으면 좋겠어요. 또 올해 연기대상에서 최우수상을 꼭 타보고 싶어요. 2009년에 ‘꽃남’으로 신인상, 2010년에 ‘개인의 취향’으로 우수상을 받았으니 올해에는 최우수상을 타는 게 개인적인 목표에요. 정말, 간절히 타고 싶습니다.(웃음)”
Q : Last question, you did “City Hunter” because you’re greedy, do you have any target for that drama this year?? “
A : “ I hope the rating would exceed 30% and I hope I could get the Grand Prize…i got Male Rookie Award for “Boys Over Flowers” on 2009 and Excellence award for “Personal Taste” on 2010. Really, I feel that I’m flying above the sky…(smiling)”
